Township employees are available to meet with you to discuss the selection and purchase of grave space(s) in our active cemeteries: Birmingham, Florence, and Cable.
A single grave space can contain one full burial, followed by up to three additional cremation burials or four cremation burials.
A Cemetery Deed conveying the burial rights to the owner will be issued upon full payment. The deed will be signed at the next trustees meeting and will be mailed to the deed owner. Lot owners should notify the township of any changes of address or contact information. Upon passing of the lot owner, any remaining burial rights may be willed to another family member or friend. If no formal designation is made, burial right(s) would pass by intestate succession as indicated in the Ohio Revised Code.
Any person who receives a Florence Township cemetery grave by gift, inheritance, or any other means other than the original deed conveyance shall, within one year after receiving the interest, provide proof and written notice of his/her name and address to Florence Township, and to notify the township of any subsequent changes.
Families can choose between a standard in-ground burial (interment) or a cremation burial (inurnment). No scattering of ashes is permitted. A burial permit or cremation certificate must be provided, and all applicable fees must be paid prior to burial.
Township employees will assist individuals, families, and funeral home staff to plan for burial services.
Regular burial service hours are 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Extended hours (Monday through Friday 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) must be approved by the township prior to finalizing the arrangements and requires an additional after-hours fee.
No funerals may be scheduled on Saturday afternoon, Sunday, or any federally recognized holiday.
Cemetery requires 48 business hours prior notice on all grave openings.
A check made out to the Florence Township Trustees for the Opening and Closing fee must be given to the township representative along with a burial permit or cremation certificate (provided by the funeral home) before or at the time of burial.
Monuments and Markers are placed at the head of the grave. Only one monument or marker is permitted per grave space.
All monuments and markers must be placed on a foundation that will be installed by township staff. The foundation must be at least 10 inches wider and 10 inches longer than the headstone or monument.
Permission of the trustees is required for any non-standard monuments (benches, etc.) or any marker wider than 28 inches or longer than 120 inches.
All Memorial monuments and markers remain the property of the owners and heirs of burial rights. Township staff does not maintain the memorials or personal landscaping. Headstone care is the responsibility of the family.
No trees, shrubs, plants, flowers, bulbs, or seeds may be planted on any grave space without the permission of the trustees.
Cut flowers, flower bouquets and seasonal decorations may be placed on grave spaces, monuments and or markers. Flowers should be in a secure container and placed on the foundation. Two pots or vases are allowed per grave. No glass or ceramic vases are allowed.
All statues or personal items must be securely placed on the foundation and kept off the ground. No loose objects may be left on the grave or stuck in the ground.
The township is not responsible for theft or damage to any personal property placed on or near grave spaces or elsewhere in the cemetery.
In order to maintain a well-kept appearance, Township employees and/or contractors employed by the Township are responsible for the maintenance of the Cemetery.
Florence Township reserves the right to remove flowers and seasonal decorations whenever they become worn, unsightly, hazardous or an impediment to maintenance. Loose objects that interfere with normal cemetery maintenance will be removed and discarded.
Winter decorations must be removed by March 15. Spring clean-up will begin March 16.
